Leave A Legacy

Whether you donate to our endowment now or make a deferred gift by including Artist Trust as part of your estate plans, your generosity keeps our communities vibrant by creating a lasting legacy for artist support in Washington State. Some donors may choose to give at a level that includes naming rights to one of our core grants for artists, therefore recognizing their name, family, or a loved one, in perpetuity.  Contact us at giving@artisttrust.org for more information.

If you have already made a Legacy Gift to Artist Trust, please consider sharing this good news with us by completing a confidential statement of intent. We would be honored to recognize you as a member of our Creative Legacy Society. Members of the Creative Legacy Society will receive invitations to special events and programs, and recognition in our Annual Report, if desired. Types of Common Legacy Gifts:

Planned giving allows you to plan your legacy now. It can also provide income, avoid or minimize capital gains, and ensure the programs important to you are supported beyond your lifetime.

Wills and Bequests

The most common way to make a planned gift is through a will or bequest. By naming Artist Trust in your will and making a bequest, you can significantly reduce the tax burden of your estate.

Sample language to use:

Specific sum of money:
“I give to Artist Trust, currently located at 1211 E Denny Way #A25, or its successor organization, the sum of (insert here the exact dollar amount).”

Specific property such as real estate, securities, works of art, or other items:
“I give to Artist Trust, currently located at 1211 E Denny Way #A25, or its successor organization, the sum (insert here a description of the particular property).”

Charitable Remainder Trusts

Charitable remainder trusts allow financial and estate-planning flexibility. They are similar to other types of trusts, except that Artist Trust receives the remainder interest. You entrust the property, specifying how trust income and the remainder interest will be distributed. A trust created during life takes advantage of income, capital gains, and estate-tax savings. A trust effective at the end of the donor’s life is especially useful for accepting retirement-fund assets.

Retirement Plans

Retirement plans are often subject to both income and estate taxes upon the death of a participant. By naming Artist Trust as a beneficiary of the balance of qualified retirement plans, your estate can achieve substantial tax savings.

Life Insurance

By naming Artist Trust as a primary or secondary beneficiary of a life insurance policy, your estate will be allowed an estate-tax charitable deduction.

Matching Gifts

Many Washington State employers offer matching gift programs where cash gifts or gifts of volunteer time are matched, sometimes more than dollar-for-dollar, with company or corporate foundation funds. Participating in your employer’s matching gift program is a great way to amplify your support of artists at no cost to you!
